This is probably the hardest post I’ve ever written: but I feel I have to tell this story to show how precious life is.

Back in Nov/21 I had the upmost pleasure of shooting the beautiful and extremely brave Lily & Joes wedding set in Lilly’s grandparents back gardens.

Unfortunately Lily passed away on Dec 27th through an aggressive form of cancer – she was 22 and Lily & Joe have been childhood sweethearts since they was 14 and met at high school, she was head girl and he was the captain of the rugby team.

She had rhabdomyosarcoma a rare but aggressive cancer which only affects 1 in a million people. She was diagnosed just aged 20.

Lily and Joes story is the most beautiful story, they are two of the bravest most incredible souls I’ve ever met, the love they have for each other is absolutely beautiful and that love radiates throughout all their friends and families who threw one crazy amazing party.

Joe, Your an incredible human destined for great things in life, Lily will always be with you looking down always watching over with her beautiful proud angelic face.

In the words of her Aunt Karin: We are all heartbroken but relieved that she’s no longer suffering and is now at peace. She was an amazing young lady who fought every day to achieve all her dreams and to pursue love & happiness despite being terminally ill. We are really proud of her and hope my children can learn from her example. It’s a truth that love rules everything in the end and nothing else matters.

Lily will remain in our hearts forever.

Now people ask me, do I ever get bored of shooting weddings, ‘absolutely not’ is always my answer, why, because it’s a honour and an absolute privilege to be let into lives like Lily’s and Joes and tell the most amazing wedding stories no matter what the circumstances.

PS: I shot this wedding on an old vintage 35mm Contax film camera at Lily’s request which for me adds more soul into their images.

PPS: This post is with the permission of Joe.

Most poignant film/photos of Lily and Joe wedding. I couldn’t help but have some tears in my eyes. Such a beautiful girl whose soul was needed to help in heaven. Through the love they shared Joe now has their memories to keep him going.

A most beautiful wedding for two of the most inspirational young people I will ever meet. Stay strong Joe. Lily, keep looking down on us, keeping us all in check! I will treasure that day forever. It was a privilege to speak the day with wonderful family and friends.
Thank you for documenting the day and capturing every special second Damian.

A real beaut and treasured memories for Joe. Thoughts with them all

Damo – this is absolutely beautiful. Amazing work in the most emotional of circumstances!
